Eyelid Retraction
Eyelid retraction happens when the eyelid is pulled higher or lower than its normal position. This makes the eyes look uneven because one eyelid appears more open than the other. The gap between the upper and lower eyelid becomes wider, which can affect both appearance and comfort. Eyelid retraction is often seen in thyroid related eye disease, but it can also happen after trauma or other eye surgeries. The condition can cause cosmetic concerns and sometimes even dryness of the eyes. Surgical correction helps to bring back symmetry between both eyelids and improves the overall look and function of the eyes.
Treatment Options
The treatment for eyelid retraction is usually surgery. The aim of the surgery is to lower the eyelid to its normal level so that both eyes look the same. In some cases, tissue grafts or other supportive techniques may be used. Artificial tears may also be given to keep the eyes moist before and after surgery.
